Glimpsed very far between the lines is the prospect that the old Inn of United
Italy has already been destroyed. In the last chapter we learned that Linda and
Giselle lived with Mrs Gould for over a year after the war, making it improbable
that the bereaved Giorgio ran his establishment by himself. In Chapter 3-10 Captain
Mitchell indicated that there was a "lot of building going on" in the
old Viola locale ,
and below we learn that Viola moves his girls to the Great Isabel to get them
away from "town," which is not exactly where the Inn was. We do not
know where the Violas live currently, but their "household" is not the
same thing as their house.
