Another indication that Giselle represents a somewhat otherworldly state. The
novel presents "thought" as synonymous with discontent, for example
in the "thoughtful frown" which brought out the "man" in Nostromo
,
and in Mrs Gould's assertion that there is no memory without "cares."
In a harmonious society without discontent, there would perforce be no "thought."
