When Don Pepe made this remark, in Chapter 1-7 ,
the narrator related it to the tirelessness of Mrs Gould's idealism. The same
comparison is made here with a sadder tinge: her "weary fatigue" has
less to do with the physical demands of her trip than with her unhappiness and
disillusionment.
