An open question in this section of the novel is whether Nostromo has or has not
changed. His motive has certainly changed -- from subservient fidelity to secret
revolt -- but he perhaps remains "incorruptible" in that he represents
throughout the integrity of the People seeking betterment in the best way they
know.
