More than any other passage, this one conveys the character of the new era in its attempt to shove all manifestations of conquest and disturbance under the rug. The "anachronism" here is the open celebration of conquest as a virtue that the statue represented. The conquest continues, but more discreetly, as the bank flanked by sentries above indicated. In the new society, it seems, both the discreet rulers and the secretly plotting people have moved their antagonisms behind closed doors.

The proposed substitute statue, featuring "peace"and "Justice," will indeed be commemorative of "Separation" -- from the more honest statuary of the past.
