On the surface this refers to Monygham's plan, not yet mentioned, to swing by the railway yards and arrange for the train that takes Nostromo out of Sulaco. On the deeper level, which in this case is the more obvious, "the way" refers to his plan to deceive Sotillo into chasing the phantom silver; i.e., the Devil's plan to set society going in its chase of the futile, lethal, never-to-be-had dream-ideal.
