Again the corpse is portrayed in a listening attitude, a macabre fallacy that hints at the dialogue's significance beyond the obvious. But I also see an illustration of Nostromo's last line here: the corpse represents Nostromo's uncomplaining "attention" to the needs of the rulers: it is the corpse of his previous self.
