Nostromo, we recall, literally means "our man"; having rejected exploitation
by the rulers, he also rejects that possessive name. To Nostromo himself his reluctance
is "inexplicable"; he has not rejected exploitation in any conscious,
political way; his thoughts so far consist only of confused emotions.
