Compare Decoud, "Nature itself seems to cry to us 'Separate!'" The same Occidental Republic that was Separatism for Decoud is now, in the ungoverned free-for-all of Sulaco, Unionism for Father Corbelan. The contrast in sanctioning bodies is illuminating when read on the deeper level: for Separatism it was "Nature" (i.e., human nature, meaning the reality of isolating subjectivity); for Unionism it is "Heaven" and "Providence" (i.e., the dream-ideal, without which unity is impossible).
