Antonia's excitement is real on the allegorical level. Having seen the spiritual death of the nation (Don Jose), and then heard Charles Gould withdraw the material interests from the field of idealism (which made her throw off her veil), she is now in a position to propose a new moral structure: that the material interests supply the money for "any arrangement" (i.e., moral purpose) made between Father Corbelan (religion) and Hernandez (socialism).
