A parallel is going on here between "value" and "virtue" as equally subjective artifacts. Nostromo's vanity, which can "take on the aspect of every virtue," is like the silver which can take on the aspect of every value; i.e., every character's ideal. Nostromo and the silver are both "incorruptible" because they exist primarily as ideals in the minds of others.
