There is a faint line of symbolism in the novel in which teeth and eating represent
violence (see, for example, the "men of many teeth" exchange ).
Teresa's insistence that Nostromo renounce his taskmasters amounts allegorically
to a call for a labor revolt, in which the People will indeed turn their "teeth"
on the rulers.
