"Quien sabe?"

"Who knows?"

The expression -- here casually expanded to a philosophy -- sums up the impossibility of knowledge in a world of subjective isolation. In such a world, Decoud seems to be asking, how does one know the difference between life and death? And his answer -- feeling -- is another indication by the novel that the true reality is the inner life of the soul.
