Dimness infallibly accompanies the birth of a dream-ideal (or in this case, the
succumbing to it). Nevertheless, the Avellanos' "bare sala" hints
at the barrenness of the political illusion, reflecting the fact that Decoud (unlike
others in the novel) is aware of the falsity of the dream-ideal even as he embraces
it.
