and "security," Sir John sees "order" and "peace"
as means toward material colonization. To Sir John, Charles Gould is a "help."
Thus, just as with Gould and Holroyd, each partner in an alliance believes himself
to be using the other. The result is unity, founded on a temporary marriage of
directly opposing dream-ideals.
