This is perhaps a foreshadowing of Teresa's death, which is barely a day away. Slightly obscured in the narrative, and apparently unnoticed by Giorgio, Teresa has in fact fainted dead away here. Note that she was precipitated into it by the volley fired by Nostromo's troops at the house -- an apparent confirmation of her worst fears as to his motives.
