The conflict between subjective points of view is a major theme of the novel, in plot and presentation. Here, our first sight of Sulaco is from a literal ' point of view.'

The point in question is the symbolic centerpiece of the novel. It is the exact spot at which the treasure will be buried at the end of Part Two, attended first by Decoud and then by Nostromo. It is also the location where Nostromo will be shot while ignominiously trying to sneak some treasure away, giving a double meaning to the phrase "that low end."
